TERM A
Artists' depiction of love through time Artists have interpreted this emotion with different styles. They have depicted the idea of love in different ways occasionally painting their own lovers as they saw them or introducing them through allegories and mythology. Queens, Kings and Popes have also ordered artists to paint their bed companions and mistresses in a subtle way. Gods and goddesses of love have always existed in different cultures; Venus, Cupid, Isis, Ishtar and Tlazolteotl have had their own power in diverse settings. Join us to analyze paintings, sculptures and portraits of deities of love and the celebrities that have played an active role in love throughout history through hundreds of images and commentaries.
The rebellious Jewish artists
Marc Chagall, Chaim Soutine, Camille Pissarro, Amedeo Modigliani, Jacques Lipshitz and Mark Rothko : Their origins in the Jewish world set them together but they have different styles, and through art, they all crossed cultural boundaries to become world-renowned artists. Explore their lives, their struggles, and their uniqueness. Marc Chagall paints the reminiscence of the shtetl and the Jewish traditions but he also did a wonderful painted window in Reims, one of the most fabulous cathedrals in France. Camille Pissarro born in the Caribbean to a Sephardic Jew was an anarchist leaving aside his own roots.
Chaim Soutine born in Belarus painted nightmarish landscapes with colors that came from the heart. Amadeo Modigliani a Jew from Livorno self-destroyed through drugs and drink painting eyeless portraits of his friends while his friend Jacques Lipshitz from Lithuania became a great sculptor and Mark Rothko's colors were the abstract expression prevails outside the Russian Jewish tradition. Through their lives and work we will sense their despair, their happiness and their ancestry being revealed or hidden through their paintings.

La elocuencia y la buena disposición de la Dra. Cohen, conjuntamente con las prenguntas inquietas de un público diverso, dieron el marco para el intercambio en un clima cordial e interesante. La conferencia supo abrirnos perspectivas sobre el tema hasta llegar al cierre, donde no faltó el sentido del humor, cuando se incluyó el analisis de obras de arte que satirizan y se burlan del matrimonio.
